The next club planning meeting will be on Tuesday 16th January 2007 at 7:30 pm in the SAAA hall
at Archerfield aerodrome. Enter via the main entrance off Beatty Road.
Club membership
Club membership has been retained at $30.00, however the SAAA have advised that the Federal
Airports Corporation have raised the rent and unless more clubs can be found to occupy and
share the rent load, then the current tenants may soon need to pay more.
Our current rent is $30.00 per night ( no fixed number of nights ) or $25.00 per night (minimum of
10 nights per year ).
We hold 11 meetings per year so our annual bill is $275. Our other budget expenses include
Federation incorporation fees and insurance to which the QSH contributes $50 plus ($15 per
Queensland member).
Our club needs your membership.
Anyone for a cruise???
Angus Kerr has a day off work this coming Thursday, 4th January 2007 and would like to go on a
cruise with other hovercraft enthusiasts in his area who may currently be on holidays, or as is the
case with Des Goss, happily retired and available to go cruising just about anytime he feels the
urge. Lucky Des.

Peter Venn's Turbo TP6
Peter Venn now has a partly completed craft in his shed at Birkdale although it still needs a lot of
work to bring it up to seaworthy condition. It is basically an extended twin-engined Turbo using
an 80hp Suburu with a 1.2 metre duct for thrust and an 18hp Honda for lift, and is designated the
Turbo TP6. It is a very well produced six seater hull and should be a good platform for a safe long
distance cruiser.
Peter and son David rebuilt a Hoverjet about 3 years ago and for anyone who has seen the Lake
Cargelligo DVD, this small vessel is testament to their experience in producing a craftsman’s finish.
Cruise report - The Spit, Somerset Dam - Saturday 9th December 2006.
The last club cruise was also the end of year Christmas party for the Brisbane Valley SES, and was
held at The Spit on Somerset Dam on Saturday, 9th December 2006 with 4 craft in attendance.

We assured the SES of 4 craft for their end of year picnic.
Unfortunately Angus had to work, but he generously offered us the
use of his Turbo Wedge 240 for the event.
On Friday 8th December 2006, Danny Venn finished repairing Angus’
Turbo and Steven Odgaard collected it at 5:00 pm and towed it to
Toogoolawah, a small town to the west of Somerset Dam.

On Saturday 9th December 2006, Arthur & Judy Stead with
granddaughter Ashlea, Phillip Audsley, Cary Breakey, Steven
Odgaard and Des Goss met at 8:30 am at Fernvale. At 9:00 am we
set off in convoy via the Split Yard Creek road and past Cary’s place
and arrived at The Spit on Somerset Dam by 10:00 am.
There we met Tony Hogben who had travelled south from Curra near Gympie
via Kilcoy.
Ready to fly

After an introduction by Neville and Dianne Finlay of the SES, we
launched 4 hovercraft and began giving rides for approximately 80
members family and friends from the Toogoolawah, Esk and Nanango
State Emergency Service branches, local police force, and shire
councillors and even one odd looking fellow with a red and white
suit carrying a sack of goodies over his shoulder.
With 4 craft available we actually had a shortage of operators,
but thankfully Tony Hogben stepped forward and offered to help.

Cary’s son arrived during the morning to see the event.
At 12 noon Santa Claus arrived aboard Phillip’s hovercraft and
delivered gifts to the children who were eagerly awaiting his
presence.
SES Rescue craft

At 1:00 pm Graeme and Ben Becker arrived from Gatton and joined
us for a delightful lunch prepared by the ladies of the SES. During a
quiet time in the afternoon, Graeme and Ben each had a go at the
controls of Angus’ Turbo and then Andrew, the SES controller from
the Toogoolawah branch, took the long craft for a trial run and the
last test run for the day was by Jenny Daniels of the SES.

At 4:00 pm the SES volunteers invited me out on the larger of the
two SES vessels and with 11 souls aboard, 3 drivers took turns at
putting the quiet 4 stroke outboard powered boat through a thrilling
slalom course that lasted for ½ an hour. Nev took the smaller boat
out with about 6 on board and the two vessels practised
manoeuvres together for about 15 minutes to end the day’s fun
before the arduous task of breaking camp and going home.

Des Goss had a long quiet cup of tea in Fernvale waiting for Phillip to
catch up, but he enjoyed his tea so much that Phillip passed through
town without any notion that Des was waiting for him. Steven made
two trips back. Nasty bit of logistics getting two craft to the camp
without a double decker trailer.
Cary Breaky renewed his club membership. Thanks to Cary for his subscription.
Arthur Stead sold 4 National Rally (Lake Cargelligo) DVDs to Cary Breakey, Nev Finlay, Graeme
Becker & Steven Odgaard of which proceeds go to both the QSH and the AHF. Thanks to Arthur.
Sales of this interesting DVD are doing remarkably well.
