The Queensland branch held a planning meeting at the SAAA hall at Archerfield Aerodrome on
Tuesday, 21st August 2007 which was attended by Des Goss, Phillip Audsley, Angus Kerr, Arthur
Stead, Arthur Gangell and Steven Odgaard.
Cruise report - Point Talburpin, Redland Bay - Sunday 19th August 2007.
Peter Venn's Turbo TP6

The last cruise was on Sunday 19th August starting from the boat
ramp at the end of Torquay Road East - Point Talburpin, Redland Bay,
although Peter Venn launched his Turbo TP6 at Thorneside and
cruised the 35 kilometres down the bay to meet the group.

Also at the Point Talburpin launch area were Arthur Stead, Michael
Nobel, Jenny Nobel, David Venn, Mark Venn and Grahame Lambert.
Unfortunately Angus Kerr had ignition problems with his Rocket at
Thornside and wasn't able to start the trip by sea, so Peter Venn and
Rusty set off alone in the new Turbo TP6 and cruised the 35
kilometres south to meet the club group at 9:15 am.
The rest of us prepared our craft for a rough trip and launched from the windy Point Talburpin at
low tide around 10:00 am. Arthur Stead took a group photo before our departure then we
travelled south to Saint Claire Island. The wind was very strong but all craft managed the
uncomfortable conditions well, and the low tide kept waves to a minimum with plenty of sand and
mud banks to settle on during refuelling and regrouping. Peter's experimental craft developed a
vibration in the lift engine, so he took an early retreat back to Point Talburpin while David and
Mark Venn drove back to Thornside to
collect Peter's trailer for a road trip home.

The remaining three craft pushed on against the gusting wind to explore the Logan River delta,
circumnavigating Lagoon Island along the way. We returned to Point Talburpin following the
mainland coast with a stiff 20 knot wind in our tail all the way back, arriving about 20 minutes
after Peter Venn and Rusty. At some parts of the trip Steven was fumigated by the exhaust from
the lift engine bacause his craft speed was equal to the wind speed. Cruising downwind on
protected passage water made Des unaware of how powerful the wind had become and he was
surprised at Point Talburpin when he had to make a port turn.
After the last craft was packed on it's trailer, the horizontal rain started. A billy tea and a hot
tomato soup was enjoyed by Peter Venn, Rusty, Arthur Stead and Steven Odgaard before the road trip home.

Peter is still testing his new craft, but in the near future, will be striping it down for painting and
galvanizing of components before a final assembly.

Next club cruise:-
The next cruise is planned for Saturday 15th September 2007 at Boggy Creek, Pinkenba.
Meet at Bancroft Road, Pinkenba at 9:00 am for a launch into Boggy Creek.
Hoping for a cool sunny day with light westerly breeze to provide favourable cruising conditions
for a trip out of the Brisbane River and north to Kedron Brook floodway, with the opportunity to
explore Jacksons and Jubilee creeks and Schultz canal. Angus and I had such a good cruise from
this spot in June, that we had to plan it again now that Des is back from holidays and Arthur
Gangell is up and running with his recently purchased Turbo Wedge 240.
