Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch held a planning meeting at the Sporting Aircraft Association of Australia hall
at Archerfield Aerodrome on Tuesday, 17th February 2009 which was attended by Des Goss,
Phillip Audsley, Angus Kerr, Arthur Stead and Steven Odgaard.
Cruise report - Muriel Street, Redland Bay, Sunday 14th February 2009.
The last club cruise was held on Sunday 14th February 2009 from 96 Muriel Street Redland Bay
courtesy of Peter Venn. Those attending the cruise were:-
Peter Venn - Turbo TP6
Eddie de Young - Expo Turbo
Steven Odgaard - Billy Baker 2.
Neville Bennett phoned me from Evans Head in NSW on Friday saying there was too much rain
about - he was right, even Des Goss stayed at home. Arthur Stead and Steven Odgaard showed
up at Peter Venn's place to meet two visitors, Eddie de Young and his son Raj from Russell Island,
with their recently purchased Expo Turbo. Peter said this was the very last production model
made by Queensland Hovercraft Supplies (Danny Venn).
The heavy rain and moderate wind kept us indoors for a few hours so we watched a few
hovercraft DVDs and checked out at Peter's commercial craft in the shed - now set up with an
assortment of spraying equipment ready for the next job spraying weeds on Wivenhoe Dam.
Elaine provided lots of great food and pots of tea while we exchanged stories about our
hovercraft adventures.
Raj goes to Aviation High at Hendra and knows Ben Becker. Graeme and Ben Becker have a Turbo
Wedge 240 in Gatton.
The rain began to ease around 11:30 am and Peter took Eddie's craft for a trial run on the wet
grass and a short run along Lagoon Passage before taking Eddie and Raj out in the Turbo so they
could start to get the feel of their new craft.
Other News:-
During the first week in February, Peter and Arthur cruised the middle reaches of the Brisbane
River between Mt Crosby Weir and Wivenhoe Dam, a distance of about 60 kilometres. A number of
obstructions along the way (low bridges, log jams) meant some back-tracking was required and
they actually travelled nearly 100 kilometres.

This section of the Brisbane River is used as a channel to transport the entire South East
Queensland region's water supply from the Wivenhoe Dam storage to the treatment plant at Mt
Crosby. This trip up the river was at the request of SEQ Water to survey the amount of noxious
weeds currently in the river and investigate ways of removing this weed.
